Wisner H. Cook, 97, passed away
peacefully on Monday (June 25, 2012) at Manor Hills in Wellsville. Mr.
Cook was born on Sept. 19, 1914 in Andover to Raphael J. and Addie Mae (Hall)
Cook. He was a 1933 graduate of Andover Central School and attended the NYS
College of Ceramics for three years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World
War II in the Pacific theater from 1943 to 1945.
Wisner
worked for Worthington Corporation in Wellsville as a draftsman for many years.
He later worked for the Veteran’s Administration in Sampson, Bath and
Canandaigua until his retirement in 1964.
Wisner
is survived by two nephews, William David (Evelyn) Alderson of Massena and Jon
Cook of Florida; a niece, Jane (John) Sincerebeaux of Aurora; a close friend,
Bob Ormsby of Alfred Station; and several cousins.
He
was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Louise Guilford and Charlotte Alderson;
and a brother, Raphael Kenneth Cook.
Wisner
was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading on many topics. In 2009, he was
recognized as a 50 year member of the Almond Grange.
Per
his request, there was a private graveside committal service in Hillside
Cemetery in Andover with Brenden Clancey, officiating. Military honors will be
rendered at a later date.
Arrangements
are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover.
