Waneta A. Ormsby
Allen, 91, passed away Thursday (Sept. 11, 2014) at Strong Memorial Hospital,
following a brief illness.
Mrs. Allen was born on Feb. 26, 1923 in Almond to Harry and Grace (Barrett) Perry. She was in the first graduating class of the consolidated Alfred-Almond Central School in 1940. In Nov of 1941, she married Edward A. Ormsby Sr., who predeceased her on Aug. 6, 1979. On Dec. 30, 1984, in Alfred, she married R. Eugene Allen, who predeceased her on June 12, 2012. Waneta was a loving homemaker; tending to the needs and care of her family. Waneta is survived by one daughter, Patricia (James) Brutsman of Cynthiana, Ky.; four sons, Arthur (Esther) Ormsby of Rochester, E. Allen (Mary) Ormsby, Jr. and David Ormsby, both of Alfred Station and Gary (Jan) Ormsby of Ithaca; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to both husbands, she was predeceased by a sister, Annabelle Oakley and a brother, Lawrence Perry. Waneta enjoyed working with her hands where her creativity showed in her quilting, knitting, sewing and cross stitching. She is fondly remembered by many, now adults, from the time in her life when she provided day care services in her home. She was very fond of round dancing. She loved baking and with five children and so many grandchildren and friends, she had many opportunities to share her talent, creating many memorable meals. To sum up her life; it was spending time with her family and friends that caused her the greatest joy and contentment. Friends may call on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m.at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. Kenneth Chroniger of the Alfred Station Seventh Day Baptist Church, officiating. A private burial service will take place in Maplewood Cemetery in Alfred at the conclusion of the service.
