Sylvia M. D'Ariano July 14, 1918 - January 22, 2012
Sylvia M.
D’Ariano, 93, went to be with her Heavenly Father Sunday (Jan. 22, 2012) at
Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. D’Ariano
was born on July 14, 1918 in Independence to John and Eleanor (Kenyon)
Ostrander. She was a member of the Wellsville High School Class of 1936. On
Dec. 31, 1953, in New York City, she married Angelo “Smiley” D’Ariano, who
survives.
Sylvia was a
cosmetologist for over 50 years the last 35 of which she owned and operated
Hair Trivia in Andover and worked with her daughter, Kathie at Beautiful Hair
by Kathie in Wellsville on a part time basis until her recent illness.
Previously, she was a seamstress for Sears and Roebuck in New York City.
In addition to
her husband of 58 years, Sylvia is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Jim)
Murphy of Hackensack, NJ and Kathie D’Ariano-Gordnier of Wellsville; a son,
John (Toni) D’Ariano of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two daughters-in-law, Delores Ryan
of Wellsville and Cathy Ryan of Bolivar; 13 grandchildren, Ion Ryan, Cathy
(Reggie) Faulkner, Connie (Tim) Stives, Tara Murphy, Neil Murphy, Angelo (Brigitte)
D’Ariano, Diamond-Tina D’Ariano, Amber D’Ariano, Louis Gordnier, Jr., Corey
Gordnier, Colin Gordnier, Kayle Gordnier and Dylan Gordnier; 10 great
grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was
predeceased by two sons, Richard Ryan and David Ryan; a daughter, Mary
Catherine Ryan; two sisters, Gladys McCauley and Nina Perkins; a brother, Lyle
J. Ostrander and two grandchildren, Yvonne Pierce and Denise Murphy.
Sylvia was an
avid golfer and bowler. She shared a passion of travel with her husband and
together they explored many exotic destinations. But more than this, she was a
very loving, compassionate and creative woman who devoted her life and
affections to her husband and family.
Friends may call
on Monday from 9:30-11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover where there
will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the church
immediately following the visitation with Rev. Sean DiMaria as celebrant.
In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions in Sylvia’s name may be made to Immaculate
Conception School, 24 Maple Ave., Wellsville, NY 14895.
Arrangements are
under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover.
