Peter R. Schneider, 59, passed away suddenly on Wednesday (April 3, 2013) in Wellsville.
Peter was born on Dec. 10, 1953 in Miami, Fla. to Sanford and Alice (May) Schneider. He grew up in Scarsdale, N.Y. and later moved to New Hampton, N.H. where he graduated from New Hampton School in 1972. He lived briefly in Rhode Island before relocating to Alfred in 1973 where he met his best friend and soul mate, Linda Blank. He graduated from Alfred State College and settled into a comfortable life in Allegany County.
Pete loved MUSIC. As an avid concert –goer and walking musical encyclopedia, he ultimately found his niche as Music Events Coordinator at the Wellsville Creative Arts Center. He was in his glory there: booking great bands, manning the light board and schmoozing with the musicians and audience. As a former employee of Moore-Merkowitz Tile of Alfred Station and Trikeenan Tile in Hornell, he was thrilled to be currently discovering the art of building Nyabinghi drums and tapping into his spiritual side.
In addition to Linda, his devoted and longtime companion, he is survived by his adored siblings, Jack Schneider of New York City, Lora (Paul) Dansker of Northridge, Cal., Eric (Jacquie) Zeiler of Hull, Mass. and David Zeiler of Santa Fe. N.M.; his much loved nieces and nephew, Sarah Schneider of Ashaway, R.I., Rachel (James) Bailey of Hope Valley, R.I. and Jeremiah Dansker of Northridge, Cal.; and his beloved dogs and cats.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step-mother, Beverly Katz.
Pete was a kind, considerate and sensitive person who brightened the lives of many people. His favorite quote was from the late, great Warren Zevon who said, “When it comes to life…enjoy every sandwich”. In addition to his love of music, he enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.
There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Baker – Swan Funeral Home in Andover.
Memorial contributions in Pete’s name may be made to SPCA Serving Allegany County, 1374 State Route 19, Wellsville, NY 14895.
