Joel A. Putnam, 60, passed away Wednesday (April 17, 2013) at Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Putnam was born on July 4, 1952 in Olean to Frank L. and Alice (Porsche) Putnam. He was a 1971 graduate of Richburg Central School and later graduated from Alfred State College. On Aug. 24, 1973 at the Faith Bible Church in Little Genesee, he married Deborah S. Benson, who survives.
Joel owned and served as president of Richardson Petroleum Co. in Andover from 1996 until his early retirement in 2010 due to his illness. Previously he worked for the company from 1975 to 1996.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Timothy J. (Heidi) Putnam and Stephen R. (Jillian) Putnam, both of Whitesville; two brothers, Loel M. (Joanne) Putnam of Hinsdale and Kerry L. Putnam of Lake Wales, Fla.; three grandchildren, Mackenzie R. Putnam, Alexander D. Putnam and Gage S. Putnam; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Sheryl Bush.
Joel enjoyed his work on the oil lease and was a member of the Oil Producers Association. He liked to collect antiques, especially pocket watches. His fondest memories and those of his family are the times he went camping with his kids and enjoying times spent with them.
There will be no prior visitation. There will be a private memorial service held at the family residence at the convenience of the family.
