Helen C. Holt, 83, passed away Thursday (Nov. 28, 2013) at Strong Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Holt was born on July 14, 1930 in Hornell to Emilio and Maria (Serio) Yannie. She was a 1948 graduate of Andover Central School. She graduated with a registered nursing degree in 1951 from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. On Dec. 26, 1952, she married William F. Holt, who predeceased her on Aug. 29, 2007.
Helen began her nursing career at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester in 1951. In 1952, she moved to Fredricksburg, Va. where she worked at Mary Washington Hospital until 1979. She completed her nursing career at Culpeper Memorial Hospital in Culpeper, Va., where she retired in 2004.
Helen is survived by three daughters, Victoria H. (Robert) Dickinson of Richmond, Va., Catherine H. (James) Lee of Culpeper, Va. and Maureen E. Holt of Colonial Beach, Va.; two sons, Mark W. Holt of Andover and Christopher M. Holt of Windsor, Va.; two sisters, Anne Corrado of Wellsville and Rose Boland of Bedford, Pa.; six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Ashley) Lee, Joseph H. Lee, Sara (Tony) Watkins, William Dickinson, Andrew Holt and Alex Holt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband of 54 years, she was predeceased by five brothers, Vincent Yannie, Emilio “Hank” Yannie, Jr., Victor Yannie, Joseph Yannie and James Yannie and one sister, Helen Catherine Yannie.
Helen had an avid interest in art and enjoyed painting, especially with watercolors. For the last 20 years, she was a member of various artist guilds. She took great pride in her gardening. She was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church and enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in the altar society. Additionally, she donated much of her time with the Andover Historical Society and the Andover American Legion Auxiliary.
Friends may call on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover with Rev. Sean DiMaria, as celebrant.
