Gladys
Jean Fox, 86, passed away Sunday (Dec. 22, 2013) at Highland Healthcare Center
in Wellsville.
Mrs. Fox was born on Sept. 29, 1927 in Angelica to Harry and Liala (Stanford) Bullock. She was a 1945 graduate of Andover Central School. On April 19, 1946 she married Merle H. Fox, who predeceased her on Feb. 24, 1985. Gladys served as the Andover Town Clerk for 20 years. She owned and operated Fox’s Restaurant from 1967-73. Gladys is survived by one daughter, Deborah (Richard) Barry of Andover; one son, James (Angelika) Fox of Elizabethtown, Ky.; a brother-in-law, Earl Herrick of Bath; a sister-in-law, June Hawkins of Angelica; five grandchildren, Meghan Barry, Brian (Candy) Barry, Kevin Fox, James (Tammy) Fox and Susan Gillicks; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Glen Bullock and a sister, Doris Dorsey. Gladys enjoyed knitting, crocheting gardening and flowers. During World War II she was a volunteer in the Ground Observation Corps. For many years, she devoted her time as a volunteer care giver. Additionally, she was a life member of the Andover Ladies Fire Auxiliary and the Andover American Legion Auxiliary. Friends may call on Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Daniel Kenyon of the Wellsville Bible Church, officiating. Burial will be in Valley Brook Cemetery in Andover. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gladys’ name may be made to Andover Rescue Squad, PO Box 726, Andover, NY 14806. |
