Lawrence N. LaPiere, 86, passed away Monday (May 14, 2018) at Wellsville Manor Care Center.
Mr. LaPiere was born on Aug. 2, 1931 in Olean to Norton L. and Mable I. (Sweet) LaPiere. On July 13, 1974 in Weston Mills, he married Alverette Lewis, who predeceased him on May 3, 2002.
Lawrence was a matress maker for Stephens Edwards Company in Malboro County, N.J. for many years.
Larry is survived by seven sons, Gerald LaPiere of Olean, Gilbert (Sandy) LaPiere of Belmont, Matthew LaPiere and David LaPiere, both of Fort Scott, Okla., Mark LaPiere of Midwest City, Okla., Richard (Denise) Osgood of Spring Hill, Fla. and Keith Ward of Olean; one daughter, Margaret (Todd) Whipple of Keystone Heights, Fla.; two step-sons, Douglas E. Travis, Sr. of Portville and James E. Travis of Ariz.; one step-daughter, Nancy Merchant of Fairbanks, Alaska; five step grandchildren, Douglas E. Travis, Jr. and Ronald J. Travis., both of Olean, William M. Travis of Hinsdale, Michael Travis of N.C. and Eric Travis of Ceres; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was precedeased by one sister, Delores Seaman.
Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a skilled wood carver and enjoyed making knives. The pride and joy of his life though was his grandchildren. In the words of one of his grandsons, “He was the greatest grandfather in the world.”
Per his wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a time to be determined.
