Jody D. Wood, 54, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 25, 2017) at home surrounded by loving family following a brief illness.
Jody was born on April 15, 1963 in Elmira to Arlene M. Thomas. As a single mom, Arlene’s mother, Estelle Thomas stepped in and together they provided a loving home in which to grow up. Jody was a 1981 graduate of Corning East High School. Jody worked as a secretary for the Wellsville Daily Reporter from 2002 until 2012. She then took a position with Northern Lights in Wellsville, doing secretarial and production work through the present. She had previously worked at Alfred University as a custodian. In addition to her mother and step father, Arlene Thomas-Leonard and Ray Leonard of Newark Valley, Jody is survived by a daughter, Danielle (Aaron) Marsh of Wellsville; one brother, Jeff (Debbie) Thomas of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.; her Aunt Dot Thomas of Campbell; her Aunt June Field of Andover; and her Aunt Iva Thomas of Bath. Additionally she is survived by three grandchildren, Brooke Marsh, Laurynn Flamini and Avery Marsh; two nieces, Michelle Thomas and Crystal Buckland, both of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.; four grand-nieces and grand-nephews Hailey Thomas, Dominik Gridley, Jenna Buckland and Deejay Buckland; her former husband and father of their daughter, Daniel (Lori) Wood of Ulysses, Pa.; a special friend, Kevin Kaczmarek of Lancaster; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Estelle and Chester Thomas; and her Aunt and Uncle Betty (Vince) Gaskey, Aunt and Uncle Irene (Jack) Walker; Uncle and Aunt John (Friedel) Thomas, Uncle and Aunt Charles (Juanita) Thomas, Uncle James Field, and Uncle Bruce Thomas. Jody had many loves. She loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She loved tending to her home, taking care of her plants and cats. She loved reading, crafting and the family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also loved the solitude of nature and enjoyed feeding the local birds. Jody was an avid music enthusiast. A special memory for her and her mother was the long weekend they spent in Canada attending an Elvis Festival. Per her wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A private memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover.
