Dan was always willing to give what he had to anyone in need.
Daniel Lee Flamini, 65, formerly of Whitesville, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2016) at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Hospital in Richmond, Va. following a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.
Dan was born on Feb. 1, 1951 in Wellsville to Anne and Victor Flamini. He attended Whitesville Central School and in his senior year he joined the United States Marine Corp, serving from Dec. 1968 to Sept. 1971. During his tour of duty, he served in Japan and Vietnam. Dan is survived by two daughters, Alicia of Rushmere, Va. and Emilie of Scio; one step-son, Chris Bryant of Perry; four brothers, Tom (Judy) Flamini of Andover, Bill (Valerie) Flamini of Potter Brook, Pa., Jon (Gen) Flamini and David (Missy) Flamini, both of Whitesville; and one sister, Linda (Buddy) Keys of Pylesville, Md. Additionally, he is survived by six grandchildren, Colten, Eli, Tristen, Logan, Seth and Lillian; a lifelong friend, Penny Bryant; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his faithful dog, Daisy. In addition to his parents, Dan was predeceased by an infant granddaughter, Ivy Rose. Known to all as “Captain Dan”, he made his living as a fisherman on the James River. Dan was always willing to give what he had to anyone in need. He was greatly loved by all and will be missed dearly. A memorial service was held on Saturday (Sept. 17) at 3:00 p.m. at Tyler’s Beach on the James River in Rushmere, Va. There will be an additional memorial to be held this Saturday (Oct. 8) at 2:00 p.m. with full military honors at the Whitesville Rod and Gun Club in Whitesville. Local arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. |
