Family and faith were at the core of her life.
Faith M. (Steffy) Buckwalter, formerly of Wellsville, passed away at Landis Homes, Lititz PA, on Sunday, December 27, 2015. She was 92 years old.
Born in Bareville, PA, June 11, 1923, she was a daughter of Noah and Metta (Martin) Steffy. On July 11, 1942, she married Robert D. Buckwalter, who passed away November 30, 2007.
Family and faith were at the core of her life. She was a farm wife on dairy farms near Strasburg, PA and then Wellsville, NY, and helped establish Mennonite churches at York's Corners and Independence, NY. After their retirement, Bob and Faith volunteered with 10,000 Villages and Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) at several locations. Her quilts were a thing of beauty as were the flowers she tended. She loved to travel, especially to visit family members in far-away places.
She is survived by six daughters: Linda (Roy) Breneman of James Creek, PA, Judith of Lancaster, PA, Joyce (Robert) Samuels of Sterling, VA, Mary Ann, (Clint) Good of Purcellville, VA, Debra, (Rory) MacCrea of Alfred, NY and Carole (Bill) Schumacher of Columbus, OH; four sons: Robert (Betty Lou) of Fulks Run, VA, John (Laurel) of Alfred Station, NY, Leon (Sue) of Hinsdale, NY, Steve (Marian) of Fulks Run, VA. She is also survived by siblings Marian (Naaman) King, Edith (Lester) of Hershey, Jason (Maribelle) Steffy and Harriet (Joseph) Kepiro, as well as 37 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Leslie, and an infant daughter, Marian, as well as by siblings Chester Steffy, Alberta Benner and Allen Steffy.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015, from 6 to 8 pm, Friday, January 1, 2016, from 10 to 11 am, at the Landis Homes, West Bethany Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz, Pa. followed by her funeral services at 11 am with Rev. Irvin Martin officiating.
An additional viewing will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Chenunda Creek Fellowship Church in Independence, NY. The funeral service will be held at the church at 10:30 a.m. immediately following the viewing with Rev. Don Siegrist, officiating. A brief graveside service will follow in the York's Corners Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
