Chief Master Sergeant Douglas J. McLaughlin, USAF – Ret., 80, passed away peacefully Sunday (Feb 3, 2013) at home following a lengthy illness, surrounded by his children.
Mr. McLaughlin was born on March 30, 1932 in Corning to Kennith J. and Ellen S. (Kittner) McLaughlin.
Doug joined the United States Air Force in 1949 and served as an aircraft mechanic, retiring in 1973. He then founded Northern Tier Aviation in Towanda, Pa. and later worked with Wellsville Flying Service in Wellsville.
Doug is survived by the mother of his three children, Alice J. McLaughlin; one son, Michael J. (Ann) McLaughlin of Wellsville; two daughters, JoAnn (David) Haugh of Wellsville and Roxanne L. (Daniel Williams) McLaughlin of Belmont; three sisters, Kay F. (Darwin) Miles of Hartsville, Barbara Ann Leach of Louisville, Ky. and Ellen M. McLaughlin of Wellsville; one brother, Kenneth J. (Lynn) McLaughlin of Canisteo; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Mark D. McLaughlin and a brother, J. Patrick McLaughlin.
Doug was passionate about anything associated with aviation. He loved to fly, fix and talk about airplanes. He enjoyed motorcycles and was an avid dancer. He looked forward to family gatherings and especially enjoyed the times spent with family and the grandchildren.
Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Michael Gomola of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville, officiating. Burial will follow in Central Valley Cemetery in Hornby with full military honors.
