These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.
( John 16 : 33 )
I don't know the family of the deceased, should I go to calling hours?

Your connection to their loved one is important to them. When you arrive at calling hours, you may find that you know some of the family, after all. However, if you don't, simply introduce yourself (i.e. I knew Jim from his sales route in Olean,) express your sorrow of their loss, and if possible share a story. It is not necessary to remain once you have greeted the family.
