Mrs. Goff was born on Nov. 25, 1933 in Alfred to Arthur E. and Mary Gretchen (Clare) Burdick. She was a 1951 graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School. On May 6, 1966, in Harbour Heights, Fla., she married Arthur Lee Goff, Jr., who predeceased her on June 27, 1999. Joan is survived by a daughter, Regina Burke of Punta Gorda; two sons, John Burke of Lithia, Fla. and James (Connie) Burke of Huntersville, NC; two sisters, Thelma (Lyle) Palmiter of Alfred Station and Norma Burdick of Wellsville; two brothers, Charles (Jackie) Burdick and Douglas (Mary Jane) Burdick, both of Alfred Station; six grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A homemaker for her husband and children, Joan lived an active life. Her love of animals began from the milking days on the family farm as a child and continued with her almost daily evening countryside rides counting deer. She was a friend to everyone she met and spent her summers at Lake Lodge in Alfred camping for over 20 years. She loved to travel, having recently vacationed in Hawaii, completing the last of the 50 states on her list. But more than this, she was a kind and loving friend and will be dearly missed by all. Friends may call on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Alfred Station Seventh Day Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Chroniger, officiating. Burial will follow at Alfred Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alfred Station Fire Company, PO Box 282, Alfred Station, NY 14803. |
