Mr. McAndrew was born on Oct. 24, 1918 at home in the town of Ward to George P. and Carrollotta (Corwin) McAndrew. In 1939, he married Hazel Ella Hulse, who predeceased him in 1970. Howard retired from Turbodyne Corp. as a machinist foreman after 35 years of service. Howard is survived by a daughter, Teresa Stuart (Dennis) Johnson of Almond; a son, Eric (Lisa) McAndrew of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Hollenbeck of Andover; two brothers, Vincent (Elsie) McAndrew and James (Connie) McAndrew, both of Wellsville; four grandchildren, James (Cindi) Stuart, Pamela (Terry) Stadtmiller, Alexis McAndrew and Patrick McAndrew; two great grandchildren, Kiley Stadtmiller and Ema Stadtmiller, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by four brothers, Edward J. Doherty, Louis R. McAndrew, Francis C. McAndrew and George F. McAndrew. Howard was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He had an avid interest in cars; from fixing his own or friends to building stock cars for racing at Woodhull Raceway. He will be remembered for his love of music and his ability to play guitar, banjo, piano, accordion and harmonica. Additionally, he loved dogs, especially his German Shepherd, Sheba. The family wishes to acknowledge a special thanks to the staff of Manor Hills and Wellsville Manor Care Center for their loving help and care over the last several years. There will be no prior visitation. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover with Rev. Sean DiMaria as celebrant. Private burial services will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Howards name may be made to SPCA SERVING ALLEGANY COUNTY, P.O. Box 381, Wellsville, NY 14895. |
