67, passed away Wednesday (February 20, 2008) at home. Mr. Buchanan was born on July 3, 1940 in Hornell to Charles and Elizabeth (Barker) Buchanan. He was a 1958 graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School. He earned his bachelors degree in 1962 from the University of Michigan and later his masters degree from Brown University and the University of Colorado. David taught German at Alfred University from 1970 1975 and later was a math instructor at Alfred State College from 1992 until his retirement in 2007. He owned and operated Holzbau Cabinet and Carpentry Company for many years. David is survived by two sons, David R. Buchanan of Vienna, Va. and Joel Buchanan of Rushford; one daughter, Molly (Ted) Bosley of Denver, Colo.; a step daughter, Captain Janna Abell of Dover, Del.; a sister, Virginia Vanderveer of Tucson, Ariz. and one grandchild. David greatly enjoyed woodworking, cooking and baking. He was an avid sports fan, especially alpine ski racing. Bowling was his favorite pastime as he was a member of the Hornell, Alfred and Wellsville Bowling League. As a teacher, he prided himself as a mentor to his students. But more than this, he was a dedicated and devoted father, who loved his children and actively participated in their lives. Friends may call today (Sunday) from 2 - 5 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Andover. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Ralph Eastlack of Youth for Christ in Wellsville, officiating. Burial in Alfred Rural Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. |
