Obituary  
Hornell - Charles A. Griffin, 92,
formerly of Alfred Station, passed away
Monday (Dec. 3, 2007) at home,
surrounded by family.
Mr. Griffin was born on April 12,
1915 in Tioga, Pa. to Cornelius and
Louise (Myers) Griffin. On Dec. 23,
1939, in Andover, he married Ruth E.
Ferrington, who predeceased him on
Dec. 16, 1998.
Charles worked as an oil driller
for Walter Childs from 1940 1965.
Later he was a mixer driver for L.C.
Whitford from 1965 until his
retirement in 1980.
Charles is survived by two
sons, Grover Griffin of Hornellsville
and Gale (Annette) Griffin of Linesville,
Pa.; three daughters, Sylvia (Randy)
Whitesell of Andover, Sherry (Ronald)
Tucker of Chili and Shelva (Robert) Wardynski
of Rochester; one sister, Ruth Shaw of Almond;
a son-in-law, Carey Demgen of Stannards, 19
grandchildren, many great grandchildren; and
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased
by a daughter, Sheila Demgen; a brother, Edward
Griffin and two sisters, Ruby Childs and Gertrude
McDaniels.
Charles was an active member of the Andover
Lions. But mostly, he was a loving husband, father,
and grandfather and in return, was truly loved by
his family.
Friends may call on Friday from 2 - 4 p.m. and
from 6 - 8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Andover.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m.
at the funeral home with Rev. Osceola Wharton of
Wayland United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial
will follow in Alfred Rural Cemetery.
